Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI Review

The new Audi SQ5 is powered by a free-revving, supercharged, three-liter V6 engine with a displacement of 2,995 cc. Its compressor sits in the 90-degree V of the cylinder banks and is belt-driven by the crankshaft. Two rotors inside the supercharger spin at over 20,000 rpm. The air gap between them is just a few thousandths of a millimeter. The supercharger compresses the intake air to as much as 0.8 bar; two intercoolers then cool it for greater power.

The 3.0 TFSI engine produces 260 kW (354 hp) between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm, and delivers 470 Nm (346.65 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft between 4,000 and 4,500 rpm. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes just 5.3 seconds – best in its class. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). The Audi SQ5 consumes on average 8.5 liters of fuel per 100 km in the NEDC (21 US mpg). This equates to CO2 emissions of 199 grams per kilometer (320.26 g/m) in the NEDC.

The chassis of the Audi SQ5 lowers the body 30 millimeters (1.18 in). The springs and shock absorbers are more tautly tuned for a sporty and balanced setup. The 20-inch wheels are fitted with 255/45-series tires; 21-inch wheels are available. The brake calipers on the front axle sport the SQ5 badge. The electromechanical steering not only plays a major role in the efficiency of the Audi SQ5, it also provides very precise road feel. Audi also offers the optional dynamic steering with a steplessly variable ratio. Control of it is integrated in the optional Audi drive select system, which allows the driver to switch among several modes in various systems.

The Audi SQ5 is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the third quarter of 2013.

Audi RS 6 Avant Review

aIn the new Audi RS 6 Avant, the twin-turbo V8 delivers confidence-inspiring power in every driving situation from its displacement of 3,993 cc. Peak output of 412 kW (560 hp) is reached between 5,700 and 6,700 rpm, with a constant 700 Nm (516.29 lb-ft) of torque available between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm.

The powerful twin-turbo V8 accelerates the new Audi RS 6 Avant from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in a best-in-segment 3.9 seconds. In the standard configuration, top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155.34 mph). This is increased to 280 km/h (173.98 mph) with the optional Dynamic package. With the Dynamic plus package, Audi reigns in the engine only upon reaching 305 km/h (189.52 mph). According to the European driving cycle, the high-performance Avant consumes on average just 9.8 liters of fuel per 100 km (24.00 US mpg). Among the factors contributing to this figure are the new, standard start-stop system and innovative thermal management. Fuel consumption has been reduced by roughly 40 percent compared to the previous model.

The new RS 6 Avant is the first RS model from Audi to come standard with a specifically tuned air suspension. The dynamic setup of the RS 6 adaptive air suspension lowers the body by 20 millimeters (0.79 in).

The new Audi RS 6 Avant comes standard with high-gloss, 20-inch, forged wheels in a seven twin-spoke design. Optional 21-inch cast wheels are available in three versions: high-gloss silver, polished black and polished titanium-look.

Audi A3 Sportback S-Line Review

The body of the new Audi A3 Sportback is long and lean. While the length (4,310 millimeters [14.14 ft]), width (1,780 millimeters [5.84 ft]) and height (1,425 millimeters [4.68 ft]) of the new model are only slightly greater than on the previous model, the wheelbase is now significantly longer at 2,636 millimeters (8.65 ft), an increase of 58 millimeters (2.28 in).

The engines of the new Audi A3 Sportback have shed a significant amount of weight as well. The engines of the new A3 have shed a lot of weight as well. The 1.8 TFSI, for example, weighs just a little over 130 kilograms (286.60 lb), while the 1.4 TFSI weighs in at just 107 kilograms (235.89 lb) – 21 kilograms (46.30 lb) less than the previous engine. With a weight difference of 15 kilograms (33.07 lb), the aluminum crankcase accounts for the largest share of reductions, but progress has also been made in many small engine details – e.g. in the new aluminum pistons and the hollow-bored connecting rod pins.

In the 1.8 TFSI, the thin-wall technology of the crankcase reduces weight by 2.4 kilograms (5.29 lb). In the 2.0 TDI, the balance shafts are mounted in the engine block, which accounts for three kilograms (6.61 lb) of savings, while modified sound dampers in the exhaust system save an additional two kilograms (4.41 lb). Weight was trimmed from the exhaust system in all engine versions.

In the chassis, the new one-piece aluminum subframe and aluminum pivot bearings (depending on the engine) reduced the weight of the front suspension system by about six kilograms (13.23 lb). The optional 18-inch alloy wheels are no heavier than the 17-inch wheels; they are produced by a complex flow-forming technology. In this process, the rim well is rolled out over a cylinder under high pressure and at high temperature. The system shapes the wheel blank in a single work step, during which the material also becomes stronger. This permits thinner wall thicknesses so that the wheel is both lighter and stronger.

Audi is initially offering the new A3 Sportback with a choice of two TDI and two TFSI engines, all of which are new developments. Their engine displacements range from 1.4 to 2.0 liters and their power from 77 kW (105 hp) to 132 kW (180 hp). Additional diesel and gasoline engines will follow somewhat later, as will the TCNG engine, which can be operated on Audi e-gas or natural gas. The bivalent TCNG engine can be operated on gasoline, natural gas or Audi e-gas. All of the engines follow the Audi engine philosophy of downsizing, in which displacement is replaced by forced induction for strong performance and low fuel consumption. Fuel consumption has been reduced on average by around nine percent compared with the previous model.

At market launch of the new A3 Sportback, Audi is pairing the 1.4 TFSI and the 2.0 TDI with a manual six-speed transmission. It shifts easily and precisely over short paths and is distinguished by high efficiency. As in all Audi transmissions, the gear spread is large – the lower gears have relatively short gear ratios, while the last gear is comparatively long to reduce engine revs. The S tronic is available as an option with all engines. Depending on the version, the dual-clutch transmissions shifts extremely quickly and nearly imperceptibly through six or seven gears.

The new Audi A3 Sportback 1.8 TFSI comes standard with a seven-speed S tronic; it unites the comfort of a classic automatic with the dynamic performance and efficiency of a manual transmission. The driver can operate the S tronic via the selector lever or with the optional paddles on the steering wheel. Shift points are somewhat higher in the automatic S mode, whereas D mode prioritizes taller gear ratios. When combined with the Audi drive select dynamics system (standard in Ambition), the S tronic includes a free-wheeling function in efficiency mode that further reduces fuel consumption.

The new Audi A3 Sportback will begin appearing in German dealerships in February 2013, with prices starting at €23,400. The 1.2 TFSI will be available somewhat later for a base price of €22,500.

Senner Tuning Audi S5 Convertible Review

One of the most elegant and sportive convertibles that the vehicle market has to offer at the present moment is no doubt, the Audi S5 Convertible. The company Senner Tuning from Ingelheim that has long specialized in the refinement of the Audi A5 construction series has now set itself the task of reworking the current S5 Convertible once again.

In contrast to the bright car color (glacier white metallic), Senner Tuning has refined the exterior of the car with numerous black elements. In addition to the RS5 radiator grill, the ornamental fog lamp covers and the Audi rings on the front and rear, the rear apron insert and the “super-charged” mud guard emblems in black also stand out in glamor.

Moreover, the adequate Work VS-XX rims measuring 9×20 and 10.5×20 inches with matt black rim stars and anodized external beds are kept rolling in the wheel housings. The high-grade three-piece parts were covered with flat Continental Sport Contact 5P rubbers of the dimensions 255/30R20 and 295/25R20. Thanks to the adjustable rebound and compression damping, the Bilstein B16 coilover kit allows for an individual setup.

In contrast to its TSFI siblings, the 3.0-liter V6 of the current Audi S5 is not subjected to pressure by one or more exhaust gas turbo chargers but rather “forced to breathe” by one mechanically-driven super charger. Senner Tuning boosted the performance of the serial 333 compressor engine that is concealed beneath the two-part carbon cover to a lofty 435 Horse Power, and the maximum torque grew from 440 to the present 501 Nm on a parallel basis. Moreover, a power converter sharpens the characteristic line of the electronic gas pedal and thus generates an even more aggressive throttle response while an elevation of the Vmax limitation guarantees the S5 a free run even beyond 250 km/h. To endow the newfound performance boost with stronger acoustic presence, Senner Tuning installed a 4-pipe sports exhaust system with valve control. It has such a cleverly-devised control system that allows for a regulation of the exhaust sound in its sound intensity and tone quality: it can be switched between travel, sports and race mode while driving using a remote control device. This newly developed system shows the active mode even on the display of the car radio and can – with the necessary upgrade – even output performance data, G-forces and lap times using the in-built GPS module via Bluetooth.

ABT Audi TT RS Review

What the ABT Sportsline engineers have done to this Audi TT RS is really breathtaking. An optimised engine management and the use of a self-developed ABT air-to-air intercooler and an ABT turbocharger turn a solid 340 hp (250 kW) into up to 470 hp (346 kW). Torque is increased from 450 to a gigantic 630 Nm. The ABT TT RS is very powerful in all speed ranges. The chic sports car only needs 3.9 seconds to get from 0 to 100 kph. Its top speed is 285 kph. To put this ABT POWER on the road in the right design, a visually attractive rear spoiler for both the coupĂ© and roadster has been developed which harmonises with the TT’s dynamic silhouette and underscores its superiority. And thanks to the ABT suspension springs the car’s CoG is lowered by another 30mm. An optimised carbon footprint and better sound is seen to by the ABT stainless steel exhaust system (middle and rear silencer). The ABT sport brake system will remain cool even in critical situations.

We also recommend the CR, DR and ER sport-type wheels in 19 or 20 inches to go with the TT. It’s up to you which wheel you choose, of course, but the wheels were consistently weight-reduced and optimised. The unsprung masses were kept as small as possible, which improves the car’s road and damping behaviour a lot. The ABT wheel highlight is certainly the new high-performance wheel ER with its ten spokes and a dynamic bent. For the TT RS, the wheel is available as a cast version, ER-C, and as an extravagant, forged version, ER-F. It goes without saying that all wheels can be bought in combination with high-performance tires. After all, “Really Sporty” starts with those.

2015 Audi R8 LMX Review

The Audi R8 (14,9 – 12,4 l/100 km [15.8 – 19.0 US mpg]; 349 – 289 g CO2 per km [561.7 – 465.1 g/mile]) is the dynamic, top-of-the-line Audi model. Its high-revving, mid-mounted engine, double wishbone suspension and ASF (Audi Space Frame) aluminum body are closely based on racing. The Audi R8 LMX is available as a coupe with a production run limited to 99 vehicles. With 419 kW (570 hp) and 540 Nm (398.3 lb-ft) of torque, its 5.2 liter, V10 engine accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in just 3.4 seconds. Top speed is 320 km/h (198.8 mph), and average consumption is 12.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (299 grams CO2 per kilometer) [18.2 US mpg/481.2 g/mile]. A compact, seven-speed S tronic transfers the power to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. 19-inch wheels are combined with carbon-fiber ceramic brake discs, which up front measure 380 millimeters (15.0 in) in diameter. Red anodized brake calipers shine behind the exclusive designer wheels. The R8 LMX is shod with 235/35 R 19 tires up front and 305/30 R 19 tires at the rear.

With the new laser high beams, one laser module per headlight generates a cone of light with twice the range of the all-LED headlight. Each module comprises four high-power laser diodes. With a diameter of just 300 micrometers, these generate a blue laser beam with a wavelength of 450 nanometers. A phosphor converter transforms this into roadworthy white light with a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin – ideal conditions for the human eye that enable the driver to recognize contrast more easily and help prevent fatigue. The laser spot, which is active at speeds of 60 km/h (37.3 mph) and above, supplements the LED high beam in the R8 LMX and greatly enhances visibility and safety. An intelligent camera-based sensor system detects other road users and actively adjusts the light pattern to exclude them.

The Audi R8 LMX will take to the streets this summer. The base price in Germany is €210,000.

2014 Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro Review

Under the hood of the Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection operates a high-revving V8 naturally aspirated engine with a displacement of 4,163 cc. The 4.2 FSI delivers 331 kW (450 hp) of power output at 8,250 rpm, with peak torque of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The resonant eight-cylinder engine accelerates the anniversary model from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.7 seconds and takes it to a governed top speed of 280 km/h (173.98 mph). Its combined fuel consumption is 10.7 liters per 100 kilometers (21.98 US mpg) – for a CO2 equivalent of 249 grams per kilometer (400.73 g/mile).

With its high efficiency and tall top gear, the standard seven-speed S tronic also contributes to fuel efficiency. The driver can let the lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission shift operate automatically or change gears themselves using the selector lever or the steering wheel paddles.

The core of the quattro permanent all-wheel drive is the self-locking crown gear center differential. The compact and lightweight component distributes torque at a default ratio of 40:60 between the front and rear axles. This ratio can be broadly varied as required – with up to 70 per cent of the power going to the front and a maximum of 85 per cent to the rear. The crown gear center differential cooperates with the wheel-selective torque control, which makes handling at curve limits even more dynamic through selective, small brake impulses. Audi offers the sport differential as an optional addition that actively distributes the power between the rear wheels.

The standard equipment of the Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection also includes the Audi drive select dynamic driving system. This system allows variation between three modes – comfort, auto and dynamic – for the characteristics of the electromechanical power steering, the seven-speed S tronic, the accelerator and the RS sport exhaust system. And if the car is equipped with Audi MMI navigation, there is also a fourth mode – individual – that can be configured by the driver.

Besides the sport differential, two further optional elements are available for Audi drive select. The dynamic steering varies the steering ratio depending on the speed and countersteers with small impulses at curve limits. The RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) equalizes the roll and pitch for the firmly sprung suspension by strictly mechanical means.

The Audi RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection rides on 265/30 series tires. Behind the gloss turned finish 20-inch wheels in 5-V-spoke design gleam red-painted brake calipers bearing RS emblems. The brake discs featuring a wave design are internally ventilated, perforated and joined to the aluminum brake disc chambers by pins. Audi installs carbon-fiber-ceramic discs at the front axle on request. The Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) offers a sport mode and can also be entirely deactivated as required.

2014 Audi A8 L Security Review

At 5.27 meters (17.29 ft) long and with a 3.12 meter (10.24 ft) wheelbase, the new Audi A8 L Security is a representative sedan that is, visually, barely distinguishable from the production version. And like its mainstream counterpart, its sporty, elegant design is now even more expressive: The hood, the Singleframe grille and the bumper have acquired sharper contours. The headlights have been made flatter and the LED rear lights have been modified too. The exhaust system is terminated by two large trapezoidal tailpipe trims on both sides of the tail end.

LED headlights are part of the standard specification in conjunction with the V8 engine; the W12 comes with Audi’s innovative Matrix LED technology. With these headlights, the high-beam comprises 25 small, individual light-emitting diodes per unit that can be switched on and off or dimmed individually as needed. The headlight system can very precisely mask other road users out of the cone of light, without significantly reducing illumination of the road.

The new Audi A8 L Security has been officially certified by the German Ballistics Testing Center in Munich; it complies with the requirements of the class VR 7 ballistic protection standard in accordance with the BRV 2009 guideline. BRV stands for “Bullet Resistant Vehicles”. Class VR 7 imposes the strictest criteria on civilian high-security sedans: The body panels and glazing of the passenger cell must withstand firing with NATO sub-caliber ammunition. In certain areas, the armor plating on the A8 L Security even complies with the criteria for the classes VR 9 and VR 10. Resistance to explosives is tested in accordance with the ERV 2010 guideline (Explosion Resistant Vehicles).

The interior of the new Audi A8 L Security is an elegantly styled relaxation zone offering a bespoke-standard build quality. There are two electrically adjustable individual seats in the rear. The front comfort seats, with an equally wide range of adjustment options, can also be supplied with massage and ventilation functions.

There is a choice of two high-end engines for the new A8 L Security – the 4.0 TFSI and the W12 FSI; both are to Euro 6 emission standard. The eight-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3,993 cc develops 320 kW (435 hp), 11 kW (15 hp) more than in its predecessor. It delivers a 600 Nm (442.54 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft between 1,500 and 5,000 rpm. It accelerates the new A8 L Security from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.5 seconds. Its average fuel consumption is a modest 10.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (21.58 US mpg).

The high-tech character of the V8 biturbo is manifested in numerous details, such as the twin-scroll turbo chargers that provide for the early and rapid development of torque, in the innovative thermal management and in the layout of the cylinder heads. Their intake end is on the outside and the exhaust end on the inside. The turbos and their intercooler are located in the inner V. This layout results in short gas flow paths with minimal flow losses and spontaneous response.

The twelve-cylinder engine in the new Audi A8 L Security is a naturally-aspirated power unit. Developing 368 kW (500 hp) and 625 Nm of torque (460.98 lb-ft), it propels the large high-security sedan from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.1 seconds. Its top speed is governed to 210 km/h (130.49 mph). The W12 averages 13.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (17.42 US mpg). Like the eight-cylinder version, that is the best performance among its direct field of competitors.

The W12 engine, with a displacement of 6,299 cc, is notable for its extremely compact layout. Its crankcase consists of four rows of three cylinders. Two rows face each other, offset by 15 degrees, and combine to form a single, wide bank. The two cylinder banks are arranged at an angle of 72 degrees. The crankshaft has a crankpin offset of 12 degrees so that the twelve cylinders ignite in the ideal interval of 60 degrees.

MTM Audi S6 Review

MTM has unveiled a power pack for the Audi S6 with power output 555 hp instead of the standard 420 hp and a torque of about 700 Nm instead of the standard 550 Nm. MTM united the M-Cantronic with the V-Cantronic in one box and set up the control in the MMI practically at the touch of a button: That’s so speed is available when you need it – up to 290 km/h after all. Whoever would like to take advantage of this boost occasionally – or permanently – can buy the option for roughly 3,700 Euro. A 4-pipe stainless steel exhaust system developed by MTM and fine-tuned on their own test stand complements the powerful ensemble for a price of 4,300 EUR including installation.

There’s no such thing as a car from MTM without visual accents where they work best. For the Audi S6 C7 4.0 TFSI quattro by MTM, therefore, there are four MTM-bimoto sets of rims to choose from – depending on your taste, at prices between 2,100 and 5,300 EUR. Behind all this there’s a braking system that was expressly designed according to two guiding principles: braking comfort just like in the series model, but the braking power adapted to the engine and driving performance.

2014 ABT Audi RS7 Review

The ABT Engine Control and its matching exhaust system with Power S “New Generation“ makes the car even more powerful and smooth-running. It has been uprated by 25 per cent: 700 hp / 515 kW and 880 Nm the specs say, with Vmax at 320 kph. But no matter if it is ABT Power or Power S: “All the latest generation’s upgrades feature the stand-alone ABT control unit with our software, which makes either system fit modern premium engines the best way,” Hans-JĂĽrgen Abt explains.

In Bavaria, great events are usually celebrated with a lot of brass music, with the ABT RS7 featuring its own instrument of sorts: the optional stainless-steel silencer system, exclusively available in conjunction with the 700 hp uprating. This makes every day a holiday. Its sound perfectly matches the assertive look of the four-door car completed by the ABT wheel spacers and sporty alloy wheels. The ER-C in its “silver bullet look“ is available in 20 inches, the gunmetal DR even in 21 inches. Both are also available as attractive sets that include the right high-performance tires.

2013 ABT Sportsline Audi S3 Review

The serial Audi S3 is convincing to begin with: 300 hp (221 kW), but the ABT S3 is still better. After all, it is especially “Speedy, Sporty, Sensual”, which is what S3 could very well stand for: the ABT S3 reaches 100 kph in only 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 265 kph. This makes for exciting trips on motorways and A-roads, while in the city – the rush hour, perhaps – it is dependable and gentle. “Utilisable fun, we call it,” says Hans-JĂĽrgen Abt.

This assertive and athletic car is also to be had featuring ABT sport-type alloy wheels. The ABT DR, for example, with its ten curved spokes signals motion even when standing still and makes for unique effects on the road. And then there is the latest highlight, the ABT ER-C, with its compelling double spokes. It’s all a matter of taste, of course, but either becomes the ABT S3 perfectly. They are available in 18, 19 and 20 inches and, of course, also with high-speed tires. The discreetly extravagant look of this compact sports car is rounded off by fender inserts that additionally underscore this car’s dynamic character.

2013 xXx Performance Audi R8 Biturbo Review

xXx-Performance from Bochum and Chiptrick technologies from Wuppertal jointly placed the Audi R8 project vehicle shown here, on four wheels, which impressively underscores the amount of power that can be potentially teased out of the 4.2 FSI drive mechanism. For this purpose, Chiptrick developed the company’s own Biturbo system which forces the respiration of the V8 with two specially constructed Garret turbo chargers and tailor-made charge-air cooler and also contains amongst others, a high-pressure fuel pump and more efficient injection nozzles. The covers of the charge-air cooler are optionally obtainable in red, black or carbon optics. Moreover, there is the company’s own self-developed exhaust system with cross x-pipe and valve control system on board for the technically adequate disposal of the hot combustion waste gas, which controls all tonalities and volume levels from the decent piano up until the unrestrained fortissimo. Vehicles with the sequential R-tronic 6-gear manual transmission are moreover upgraded with a special transmission software that is adapted to the new situations.

Depending on customer’s requirement, the Biturbo system can also be obtained in three performance stages: In stage 1, the performance of the R8 4.2 FSI surges from 420 to 590 horse power, the torque increases from 430 to a whopping 660 Nm. Already in this configuration, the turbo R8 easily outshines its bigger brother in standard production R8 5.2 FSI quattro (525-550 horse power / 530-540 Nm). The medium class turbo upgrade stage thus has 640 horse power and 675 Nm and the current top version unleashes a whopping 707 horse power and a powerful 809 Nm. In its biggest upgrade version, the Biturbo R8 is catapulted to 100 k.p.h. in just 3.6 seconds – one whole second faster than the standard vehicle. The 200 k.p.h. limit plunges to 10.6 seconds and only 15.8 further seconds later, the speedometer needle crosses the 300 k.p.h. check mark. The electronic system terminates the propulsion only at 313 k.p.h. In spite of the enormous power boost, Chiptrick and xXx-Performance while developing the turbo technology, paid special attention to the sound drivability and suitability for daily road use as well as durability of the entire system. The Biturbo system will be henceforth produced in small batch series and will be obtainable from cooperation partners. Even TĂśV gave its blessing to performance stages 1 and 2 while stage 3 is only obtainable as export version.

2013 ABT Audi RS6 Review

Thanks to ABT POWER S and decades of experience in motor sports, the ABT RS6 is an extremely dynamic estate. With 700 hp (515 kW), this elegant car has a 25% better performance than the original, which has 560 hp (412 kW). Depending upon the Vmax uprating, the top speed can be 320 kph. This is made possible through the innovative.

ABT engine control unit, the ABT exhaust system and slight engine management modifications. Torque is increased to 880 Nm. This chic estate from Bavaria thus does not only pull it all, it also pulls it off, as it were. It will reach 100 kph in no more than 3.4 seconds. The ABT POWER version also doesn’t hide its racing DNA: 666 hp (490 kW) and a torque of 830 Nm are very impressive.

The ABT RS6 can become an automotive icon. If you look at the mirror caps made of exposed carbon, you can see that “sport” is the operative term here in “transport”. Combined with the stainless-steel exhaust silencer system with the two striking tailpipes and suspension springs, they render the ABT RS6 dynamic in a discreet fashion. “This car is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” is how Hans-JĂĽrgen Abt describes his super sports car in a “bespoke suit”, made even better by the weight-optimised ABT ER-C design wheels in

9.5 x 20 or 10 x 22 inches. The five double spokes show the tuned 4.0 TFSI’s forward thrust even when the car is still standing: one spoke per pair is bent, which symbolises motion. It goes without saying that this premium wheel for especially fast cars is also available with high-performance super sport-type wheels. The ABT RS6 sets standards. It is the perfect mix of sportiness, elegance and usefulness. It is omnipotent.

ABT Sportsline AS1 Review

With a little help from ABT, the turbo petrol engine 1.4 TFSI (production version: 185 hp / 136 kW), has up to 210 hp (154 kW) making the AS1 Sportback a real motorway shocker, coming close to the 240km/h limit and getting from naught to 100 in 6.6 seconds. The smaller version has 160 hp or 118 kW (standard version: 122 hp / 90 kW). Even the 1.2l basic TFSI is very “relaxed”. After all, the globally largest tuner of vehicles of the Volkswagen Group turns 86 hp (63 kW) into torquey 110 hp (81 kW). However, Audi and ABT Sportsline have always also featured really powerful diesel engines. ABT Power makes the 1.6 TDI have 125 hp (91 kW), while the production version has 105 hp (77 kW). The “ABTed” 2.0 top diesel (production version 143 hp / 105 kW) offers 170 hp (125 kW).

Upon request, this compact and powerful car is available in three cool designs. “There is the chilly ALOHA in its Hawaii look, the charming and funny KLECKS or the waspish HIGH-VOLTAGE with its martial Skulls”, CEO Hans-Jurgen Abt explains. The both fresh and original looks are much more than just a wrap. After all, for every set ABT also has tone-in-tone front lips, side skirts, wing inserts, rear skirt inserts and a spoiler — in brushed aluminium or grass-green or lavender

To make the ABT AS1 Sportback sound as it should, the Bavaria-based company has installed a 2-pipe-exhaust system. But what makes the car really complete are the corresponding alloy rims. The 18-inch DR wheels or the 17 or 18-inch Z Titan are perfect. If you see such a complete car, you know why the compact ABT AS1 Sportback should not be called a “small” car.

2014 Audi S8 Review

The S8 is Audi’s big sports sedan. Its 4.0 TFSI paired with quattro all-wheel drive accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.1 seconds, yet consumes on average just 9.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (24.50 US mpg), corresponding to 225 grams CO2 per kilometer (362.10 g/mile). The COD technology that greatly improves the efficiency of the sonorous, twin-turbo V8 under part load is largely responsible for this top value. In four-cylinder mode, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) uses precise antiphase noise to eliminate intrusive noise in the interior, while active engine mounts dampen vibrations. The A8 4.0 TFSI quattro, the A8 L W12 quattro and the A8 hybrid also have the ANC system on board.

The Audi S8 is the only member of the A8 family whose exhaust system ends in two elliptical dual tailpipes. Dynamic steering, the quattro powertrain with sport differential and the adaptive air suspension sport with an S-specific setup are standard. The wheels are 20 inches in diameter, and the brake calipers on the front axle bear S8 emblems.

The Audi A8 can be distinguished visually by means of several distinctive design modifications The Audi design selection black/vermont brown with Carbon twill copper inlays is available for the interior.

Audi R8 V10 Plus Review

The Audi R8 V10 plus is a new top model in the model series, with a totally new 7-speed S tronic. The LED headlights and the new rear indicator lights with dynamicized display are standard equipment on all variants. 4.44 meters (14.44 ft) long, 1.90 meters (6.23 ft) wide and only 1.25 (4.10 ft) meters high (Spyder: 1.24 meters (4.07 ft)) – the broad Audi R8, developed and built by quattro GmbH, stands firmly on the road, ready to pounce. New details lend its design even more acuity. The single-frame grille with the beveled upper corners is painted high-gloss black, with horizontal chrome inserts adorning the struts on the V10 variants. The bumper is also new, with the air inlets bearing three crossbars each. As an option, Audi installs a front splitter made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The splitter is standard on the new R8 V10 plus.

Audi offers the R8 in the two solid colors Ibis White and Brilliant Red, in four metallic shades and with five pearl effect / crystal effect coatings. For the R8 V10 plus a matt effect color is available as an exclusive feature. The side blades on the Coupé come in eight colors, while the soft top of the R8 Spyder comes in black, red or brown.

The R8 V10 plus, available only as a coupé, brings the needle to 1,570 kilograms (3461.26 lb). Adjustable bucket seats with glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) chassis, less use of insulating materials, special light alloy wheels and chassis components, including the standard ceramic brakes, as well the CFRP add-on parts at the body all contribute to lowering the weight.

Developing 404 kW (550 hp), its maximum torque is 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. With S tronic, the R8 V10 plus, available only as a coupé, catapults from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 317 km/h (196.97 mph); the average fuel consumption rate is 12.9 liters per 100 km (18.23 US mpg). The key data with manual transmission are 3.8 seconds, 319 km/h (198.22 mph) and 14.9 liters (15.79 US mpg).

2013 XXX Performance Audi R8 V10 Review

The broad mudguard, stone deflectors and sill-board of the aggressive GT-X650 wide-body kit transform Audi to an outright “monster”. Sophisticated details such as air inlets in the front and rear mudguards or the huge openings of the exhaust pipe-end make the wide body kit a unique product. The construction set is also optionally obtainable in a “slender” GT-X600 version. As opposed to the broad-construction body kit, this variation contains no broad mudguard but consists exclusively of front and rear aprons, side skirts and V10 side blades to match.

Attached parts such as external rear-view mirrors, roof scoops, side blades and rear diffusers are optionally obtainable in real carbon or can be covered in carbon-look wrapping – in any case, the dark carbon structure provides sensational contrast to the blue CFC chrome wrapping. XXX-Performance has added the Audi-Plus full LED headlamps and tail-lamps that are also obtainable from XXX-Performance, to match the brute visual appearance of the sportscar. Compared with the serial illumination system of Audi, the Audi-Plus headlamps and tail-lamps make the distinctive proverbial difference like Night and Day.

The H&R coilover kit that was converted by XXX-Performance from steel springs to air bellows ensures an extreme lowering of the blue bolide. Moreover, the driver will be able to conveniently adjust the height of the vehicle from the vehicle’s interior by a mere touch of a button. With barrel-type 235/30 and 325/25 Hankook tyres, there is hardly any space left in the wheel houses. The three-part GTR forged wheels in the dimensions 9×20 inches and 13×20 inches with sporty and elegant looks are taken from the US rim manufacturer Forgiato.

Talking of performance-boosting however, XXX-Performance draws from abundant resources. Using chip-tuning and carbon air-box and several additional modifications, the V10 attains a performance output of 650 Horse Power. The performance of the brute acoustics of the exhaust system, whose loudness can be regulated using a valve control system, can be specifically underscored. With valves open, the V10 roars out loud and unrestrained, the full extent of its performance capacity and sets sheer fire on the road surface.

SpeedART Porsche Cayman SP81-CR Review

The SP81-CR bodykit depends on the rear wing, rear diffuser and a front chin spoiler. This new rear wing is developed for mounting on the original spoiler feet with an impressive sportive design. The body kit is designed to be painted in the well-known speedART bicolor optic, which was released on the first time at the PS9-Panamera bodyparts and which is also shown on the new S91-R body kit which is based on the 991 Carrera and new Boxster 981. The SP81-CR will be integrated seamless in the existing design-line and creates a high value of brand recognition for speedART cars.

There are different levels of power kits for both brandnew 981 Cayman and Cayman S engines. Starting with a complete modified sport exhaust system with sport-catalysts and manifolds (optionally combined with a sound switch function), there will be a perfect calibration of the ECU map to increase the power of the 981 models up to 35 hp + 30 nm including a fascinating and impressive sound.

speedART offers the forged and modular LSC- wheel. This special speedART-LSC-FORGED wheel is a complete new innovation which is especially made as a super light forged version in 20” and 21” which will be availiable in diffrent colors of the center star and outer rim to emphasize the individuality of each LSC-FORGED wheel.

ABT Sportsline Audi AS4 Review

The ABT AS4, based upon the Audi A4, sets standards in terms of sportiness, especially in the now available version with the 3 liter six-cylinder engine. The new 3.0 TFSI variant of the A4 has been optimised by the ABT engineers and the performance increased by a full 108 hp (79 kW). With 380 hp (279 kW), this new model is always the right companion. Torque has been increased by 100 Nm to 500 Nm; the turbo V6 is always powerful, even when fully loaded, so it’s always on top of every traffic situation. But it isn’t only for the 3 liter six-cylinder petrol engine that ABT Sportsline provides the right upgrades. The portfolio for the A4 and the A4 Avant has the right version for all you may want. Be it a turbo petrol engine or a balanced and powerful diesel engine for people who use their car a lot and want to economise.

The ABT Sportsline designers also developed aerodynamic components for the A4 limousine and the A4 Avant: front spoiler, fender inserts and side skirts shape the elegant silhouette. The rear end is assertive with its rear spoiler, rear skirt and 4-pipe exhaust system. And that’s just as it should be for the road behaviour of the ABT AS4, which is also improved by the CoG being lowered by the suspension springs, thus underscoring the A4’s sporty looks. The ABT height-adjustable coilovers, combining maximum comfort with optimum road behaviour, are really “premium”. We also recommend ABT sport-type wheels: the new highlight is the attractive ER-C. With its five double spokes, it is fully in line with the design of the Audi A4 and underscores this car’s forward thrust. This model, and the CR and DR, are available in 19 and 20 inches and in combination with high-performance tires. The ABT AS4 is really a roadworthy athlete – especially with the 3.0 TFSI.

MTM Audi A6 3.0 BiTDI Review

The Audi A6 is the ideal base for the MTM-engineers and technicians for an intervention in the electronic engine management. The result of this high-tech operation is very interesting. 381 hp and a torque of 780 Nm are data that satisfy even the highest claims. This brings in fact the throne of the eight-cylinder diesel engine to jiggle. The MTM engine electronic is in only two hours exchanged against the serial-software.

Now let’s come to the costs. This operation is available for barely 1800 € and for 100 € fewer you can have the tamed MTM version with 365 hp and 760 Nm torque. To harness such a boost, good brakes are needed in case of doubt. On the front axle holds a MTM brake system against the rapid propulsion. You can choose between two different varieties. The first one is available in the configuration of 380 X 34 mm with granulated brake discs, stainless-steel-flex-line and eight-piston brake caliper. This exemplar is offered for 4900 €. The second variety is available for 6400 € and offers a 405 X 36 mm rated brake which fits under minimum 20” rims.

An F-Cantronic ECU for air suspension elevates and lower the MTM A6 3.0 BiTDI on the right level according to the driving- conditions. Under about 70 km/h is the A6 crouched. On the front axle is the car maximal 25 mm lowered and on the back axle maximal 20 mm. The air suspension will stabilize the car on standard level if it goes above the mentioned data. The F-Cantronic is mounted in 2, 5 hours and costs less than 1740 €.

One MTM achievement principle is that the cars should be strong in accession and beautiful in appearance and this explains why there is such a variety of offers on bimoto rims in every size. For nearly 1730 € is the variety 8 X 18” available, and for 5230 € you can have 9 X 20” and this one suits the A6 3.0 BiTDI excellently.

Senner Tuning Audi S5 Coupe Review

Senner Tuning has tweaked the car body of the ibis-white two-door Audi, giving it the look of the flagship RS5 model, by adding a front spoiler in RS5 design with original RS5 air intakes as well as fitting an original black RS5 radiator grille to the vehicle. Continuing the same way at the back of the vehicle, Senner has added an RS5-style rear spoiler as well as RS5 exhaust pipe end covers. The rear-design is finished with a rear window spoiler and a restrained boot lid spoiler element. Between the fenders, Senner Tuning has installed side skirts finished in carbon-fibre. The exterior rear view mirror casings are also made of shimmering mesh carbon-fibre. The characteristic Audi rings on the front and rear of the vehicle have been retained in black, and Senner Tuning have placed ‘Supercharged’ badges on the front fenders to give a little something extra. The vehicle’s number plates are illuminated by bright white LEDs.

Senner has equipped the Audi S5 with high-quality Work VS-XX light-alloy wheels with black-coloured anodised star-shaped rims and mirror-finish anodised outer rims. These 9×20 inch and 10.5×20 inch high-quality three-part wheel rims are perfectly matched to Vredestein Ultra Sessanta tyres of size 245/30R20 and 295/25R20.

The series-standard 3.0 litre V6 engine, which, in spite of the somewhat misleading designation ‘TFSI’ is not boosted by a turbocharger, but instead by a mechanically-driven supercharger, is already an extremely powerful engine. The golden rule, however, is that you can never have enough power, and so Senner Tuning provide the option to enhance the performance of the supercharged V6 engine from 329 bhp to a whopping 429 bhp. At the same time, torque is increased from 440 to 501 Nm. Thanks to the removal of the electronic Vmax (maximum speed) blocker, Senner Tuning’s Audi S5 can fully convert its enhanced performance into forward drive and top line speed. On the vehicle shown here, Senner Tuning has installed a performance racing air filter, a two-part motor cover and a power converter which sharpens the characteristic on the electronic accelerator pedal.

Senner Tuning is offering a special price of EUR € 69,990.00 (VAT stated separately) for the complete vehicle (Original vehicle price including special fittings, trim and tuning: EUR € 99,700.00).

Prior Design Audi R8 GT850 Widebody Review

Prior Design tuners turn the “standard” R8 into a brutal PD-GT850 racing style car. Its outfit would fit the der NĂĽrburgring Nordschleife as well. The front was entirely revised. A front apron with widenings and an integrated carbon spoiler was installed. Additionally, two air inlet covers were integrated that are applied with two carbon struts each. The motor cowl has an integrated air outlet with four lamellae. A set of new front mudguards ensure a much wider look. Prior-Design improved the air circulation along the vehicle sides by installing aerodynamically formed side sills that also optionally light the vehicle underbody with four LED lamps. The tuners offer the wide side cover in a carbon fibre alternative as well.

The tail area could have been taken off of a GT3-racing car. A massive tail spoiler and a tail bumper with lateral air inlets, as well as a Carbona application put a lot more power onto the rear axle. A set of tail widenings produces a powerful stance. The 24,900 Euros construction kit (plus paint job and assembly) for the R8 is completed by a stylish roof scoop.

In addition to the car body construction kit, Prior-Design also offers the matching wheel/tyre combination for the R8 now: a 3-part ADV1 Concave-wheel in 20 inch with Continental tyres in 265/30R20 and 325/25R20. The entire wheel set is at about 9,900 Euros. For another 2,699 Euros, Prior-Design also offers a special sports exhaust system with flap control. For the “small” 4.2 FSI, the power can be raised from 420 to 475 hp if the customer wishes (5,900 Euro). If you need more steam than that, use the compressor conversion with power upgrade to reach a full 565 hp.

2013 Audi S3 Review

The long-stroke 2.0 TFSI in the Audi S3 has been developed from scratch. The only thing it has in common with its predecessor, which was named Engine of the Year five times in a row between 2005 and 2009, is its displacement of 1,984 cc (bore x stroke 82.5 x 92.8 millimeters [3.25 x 3.65 in]). The four-cylinder unit delivers a constant 380 Nm (280.27 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft between 1,800 and 5,500 rpm. Rated power at 5,500 rpm is 221 kW (300 hp), and the engine redlines at 6,800 rpm.

The Audi S3 delivers impressive performance. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) is completed in 5.1 seconds when equipped with the S tronic (5.4 seconds with the manual transmission). The electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph) is just a formality. The S3 with S tronic consumes on average just 6.9 liters of fuel per 100 km (manual: 7.0 liters) [34.09 and 33.60 US mpg]. This corresponds to CO2 emissions 159 (162) grams per kilometer (255.89 and 260.17 g/mile) and for models equipped with the manual transmission, an improvement of 1.5 liters compared with the previous version.

The new Audi S3 comes standard with a manual six-speed transmission with a lightweight magnesium case. The optional S tronic boasts high efficiency and a tall sixth gear. The lower gears are short in the interest of dynamics, as is also the case with the manual transmission.

The S tronic comprises two subunits, with two multi-plate clutches controlling the gears. The large K1 clutch located on the outside directs the torque via a solid shaft to the gear wheels for gears 1, 3 and 5. A hollow shaft rotates around the solid shaft. It is connected to the smaller K2 clutch, which is integrated inside its larger sibling, and which acts on the gear wheels for gears 2, 4 and 6, as well as reverse.

The Audi S3 will arrive at dealerships in early 2013. The base price in Germany is €38,900.

ABT Audi AS5 Sportback Review

Based on the Audi A5, the ABT AS5 Sportback comes with three turbo petrol engine variants. After having been “ABTPOWERised”, the economical 1.8 TFSI shows 211 hp or 155 kW (serial version: 170 hp/125 kW), the 2.0 TFSI delivers 270 hp/199 kW (serial version: 211 hp/155 kW). Especially impressive is the 3.0 TFSI: 380 hp or 279 kW (serial version 272 hp/200 kW), and a torque of 500 Nm makes this variant a real athlete. For frequent drivers, we recommend the turbo diesel engines, which also get uprated by ABT Sportsline: to 300 hp or 221 kW (serial version: 245 hp/180 kW) and an impressive torque of 570 NM for the 3.0 TDI and torquey 205 hp or 151 kW for the 2.0 TDI (serial version: 177 hp/130 kW).

Rather befitting this extra performance and agility, the creative Bavarian developers also came up with components that underscore the elegant and dynamic character of the ABT AS5: the front lip spoiler and an assertive rear end, including a rear skirt and the four-pipe exhaust, form a unit with the Sportback’s extravagant design. Sporty CR or DR alloy wheels, available in 19 or 20 inches, make the car perfect. Needless to say that ABT also sells them in combination with high-speed tires and wheel spacers.

Audi RS 7 Sportback Review

The RS 7 Sportback, the large five-door coupe from Audi, combines many strengths to produce a fascinating character. Its strong heart is the 4.0 TFSI, which takes Audi’s downsizing strategy to the high-end category. The twin-turbo V8 displaces 3,993 cc and develops awesome power, with 412 kW (560 hp) available between 5,700 and 6,700 rpm. A constant 700 Nm (516.29 lb-ft) of torque are available between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm.

Audi S3 Sportback Review

The four-cylinder engine in the S3 Sportback has been overhauled. The only thing in common with its predecessor is a displacement of 1,984 cc. Its rated output of 221 kW (300 hp) is available at 5,500 rpm; maximum torque of 380 Nm (280.27 lb-ft) is constantly available from 1,800 to 5,500 rpm.

When equipped with the optional six-speed S tronic, the S3 Sportback sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in only 4.9 seconds. The six-speed manual transmission needs just five-tenths of a second more. Top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h (155.34 mph). Launch Control delivers the engine’s power to the road with defined tire slip. The 2.0 TFSI consumes just 6.9 liters per 100 km (34.09 US mpg) on average when paired with the S tronic (7.0 liters [33.60 US mpg] with the manual transmission). This engine thus requires 1.5 liters per 100 km less compared to the previous S3 Sportback.

In addition to a sophisticated suspension and the S sport suspension, which lowers the body by 25 millimeters (0.98 in), the axle-load distribution (59% to 41%, front to rear) and new, progressive steering contribute significantly to sporty handling. The key to progressive steering is that steering movements determine the steering ratio. This results in stable and virtually neutral steering characteristics for outstanding precision during sporty driving and easier steering while parking.

The new Audi S3 Sportback features 7.5 J x 18 wheels. The low rolling resistance of the 225/40-series tires helps reduce fuel consumption. The calipers of the large brakes, which measure 340 millimeters (13.39 in) in diameter up front, are painted black and bear S logos. They can optionally be red. The electromechanical parking brake governs the rear axle. Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) reflects latest-generation technology.

Audi RS5 Cabriolet Review

The Audi RS5 Cabriolet measures 4,649 mm (15.25 ft) long, 1,860 mm (6.10 ft) wide and 1,380 mm (4.53 ft) high, and its wheelbase is 2,751 mm (9.03 ft). Eight exterior colors are available – a monochrome color, four metallic and pearl effect colors and three crystal effect paints. The soft top is available in black, gray, red or brown. As options, Audi can install a styling package in matt aluminum as well as an engine compartment design package that uses carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials. The car’s drag coefficient is 0.34; underbody panels make a significant contribution towards aerodynamic refinement.

The interior of the Audi RS5 Cabriolet is styled in black, and the inner soft top liner can be ordered in the optional color star silver. Fine chrome highlights, understated high-gloss black trim and carbon inlays underscore the car’s dynamic appearance. Upon request, Audi can deliver the inlays in Aluminum Race, piano finish black, matt brushed aluminum or stainless steel mesh at no additional cost.

Propulsive power for the Audi RS5 Cabriolet is supplied by a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine with FSI direct injection. From its 4,163 cc of engine displacement, it outputs 331 kW (450 hp) at 8,250 rpm and produces a maximum torque of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The 4.2 FSI with red painted cylinder head covers that is manually assembled in the Hungarian plant in Gy?r achieves a specific power output of 79.5 kW (108.1 hp) per liter engine displacement; each hp only needs to move 4.267 kg (9.41 lb) of vehicle weight. The long-stroke engine with its aluminum crankcase breathes freely; flaps in the exhaust tailpipes vary the sonorous acoustic backdrop. As an option, Audi can deliver a sport exhaust system with black tailpipe trim.

The Audi RS5 Cabriolet rockets from a standstill to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.9 seconds. The car’s top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155.34 mph); at customer request, Audi can boost this to 280 km/h (173.98 mph). The powerful V8 has a combined fuel consumption of 10.9 l/100 km (21.58 US mpg). Its cylinder liners and chain drive are optimized for minimal friction, and the oil pump is only driven as needed.

Customer deliveries of the Audi RS5 Cabriolet begin in early 2013 in Germany. The base price in the home market will be 88,500 euros.

2014 Audi RS Q3 Review

An award-winning high-performance engine, the 2.5 TFSI, is at work under the hood of the Audi RS Q3. This five-cylinder engine has been named “International Engine of the Year” in its class for three consecutive years since 2010 by an international jury of automotive specialists. From 2,480 cc of engine displacement, the turbocharged direct-injection engine produces a maximum power of 228 kW (310 hp) at 5,200-6,700 rpm; its maximum torque of 420 Nm (309.78 lb-ft) is available between 1,500 and 5,200 rpm.

The 2.5 TFSI accelerates the Audi RS Q3 from a standstill to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.5 seconds – the best performance value in this segment. The vehicle’s top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155.34 mph). In the RS Q3, the Audi five-cylinder engine is working together with a standard start-stop-system for the first time. Other efficiency measures such as a regulated oil pump, which only pumps lubricant when needed, contribute to the car’s low average fuel consumption of 8.8 liters of fuel per 100 km (26.73 US mpg) which equates to 206 grams CO2 per km (331.52 g/mile).

A standard seven-speed S tronic transfers power to the drivetrain. It was designed in a compact three-shaft configuration, and its seventh gear has a long gear ratio to save on fuel. Drivers can choose between the D and S modes for automatic shifting of the dual clutch transmission, or they can shift manually – using the shift paddles on the steering wheel or the selector lever that sports a unique RS design. The Launch Control function controls acceleration from a standstill to attain optimal traction.

In Germany, the base price is €54,600, and deliveries begin in fall 2013.
